It is possible that the starter and gear shift are frozen if the vehicle has been exposed to extremely cold temperatures or moisture. If the starter is frozen, the engine may not turn over when attempting to start the vehicle. Additionally, the gear shift may be difficult to move if it is frozen in place. It is important to address these issues before attempting to start the vehicle to avoid causing damage. Using a de-icer or warming the vehicle in a garage can help to thaw out the frozen components. **

The starter does not start in first gear because it is designed to engage with the flywheel or flexplate, which is connected to the engine's crankshaft. The flywheel or flexplate is only engaged when the engine is not running and the transmission is in neutral or park. If the starter were to engage while the transmission is in gear, it could cause the vehicle to lurch forward or backward, potentially causing damage to the transmission or other components. Therefore, the starter is designed to only engage when the transmission is in neutral or park, ensuring the safety of the vehicle and its occupants. **

The starter roller is designed to work in conjunction with starter spray to help start an engine. The roller is used to evenly distribute the starter spray onto the engine, making it easier to ignite and start. Without the starter spray, the roller may not be effective in starting the engine. Therefore, it is important to use the starter roller with the appropriate starter spray for optimal results. **
